Making brushes from found materials

Sally Hirst recommended Lorna Crane as someone who makes wonderful brushes from found materials. I haven’t been further than the garden - it’s all here!  I tried a poppy seed head - dried, think I might try a green one in a few weeks - miscanthus stems and fluffy seed heads, good old pigeon feathers and magnolia grandiflora seed heads, beautiful things.

I’ve decided my topic will be WALKING.  Walking has always been my main form of exercise, my main outdoor activity, (I was useless at ball games, could never see the wretched thing fast enough, whatever its size).  I Nordic walk with a group at least twice a week.
I’ve begun Rebecca Solnit’s book WANDERLUST.

Definitions of walking - to lift each foot in turn, both feet are never off the ground together.  So immediately, CONNECTION, always connected to the earth, grounded.  There's a lot in that alone.  To guide - she walked her home.  To abandon - walk out.  To go missing, stolen - the glasses walked.
And from Solnit, walking, ideally, is a state in which the mind, the body and the world are aligned.  3 notes suddenly striking a chord."
Phrases:
moonwalk, spacewalk, walk of life, walkabout, walkie talkie, walk it off (dated 1741) walkabout, firewalker, streetwalker, walk on water, walk on egg shells, walking on air, walk the talk, walk the dog, walk in the park, walk all over someone.
Much more from Solnit on thinking and walking, 3 miles an hour seems to fit the speed of thinking perfectly.

What's interesting already is that I'm reading the book differently because I've got this project in mind.  I'm noticing different things.  It has added a new level of awareness and alertness.  It is a richer experience.
